Why can't you use sand to level the base for a spasher pool.
The ground where i am is very chalky ,so need to use something.

The trouble with using sand to level off is that the sand does compress, wash away and move...........this could lead to problems with the levels off the pool, putting undue pressure on the pool sides causing the possibilities of the collapsing. Using concrete to level off the base avoids any problems that may arise.

The instructions say to just remove the sod and level the soil, which I am doing.Once I have set up the metal bits of the pool ,can i put sand in
the bottom under the liner.or should i just compress the soil.
I really don't want to get into concreting, and was not an expectation that was set when i ordered.(bear in mind this was ordered as you did not have th eeasy ups in stock) :)

Hi bshiel,
Just thought I would confirm our telephone conversation for the benefit of the forum.
I would recommend placing the rails of the splasher pool on compacted earth.
Then build the wall, mix an 8:1 soft sand to cement mix "lean mix" to form your cove. This does 2 things, it allows you to form the cove and cover up the metal edges of the bottom rail, and it locks the pool in place by allowing the water when the pool is filled to have an even load at the bottom of the pool acting like a stabilising ring.
The "lean Mix" will in the course of a day or two go hard, so reducing any undue movement or erosion from excessive splashing.
The internal floor of the splasher should then be checked for stones, and a level layer or soft sand put over the ground. This will reduce the risk of damaging the liner.
Many of our clients tell us that they use the foam underlay that comes from most D.I.Y stores for laminate flooring.

Hope this helps

Let me know how you get on.

All the best

Hi,
I followed the suggestions and all appears to have worked okay.
I have to say that getting the pool sides into the base frame was the hardest bit,but pool is up and running.

One note though, leave liner out whilst you start setting up the pool,so that when you get to the stage you need it,it is warmed up and more pliable.
Unlike me,I got to where i needed it and instructions said leave liner out for a couple of hrs before fitting.

Hi,

I am installing a 16 x 10 splasher and was wondering how level your base was- the instructions indicate it to be quite exact but afer digging down a foot for my bas (which i intend to fill with jablite) i am finding a a little unevenness but in general level base -

Any advise based on experience apreciated

Hi ,
I have to say we got it fairly good throughout the whole site but more exact for about a 12 inch band where metal base goes. This was lucky as believe it or not even though we triple checked the diameter of the base ring, when we tried to install the side wall the two ends didn't meet,so we had to reduce
the size of the base ring until it did.
Having this 12 inch band to play with was a god send.

We then put a sand /cement mix as an internal cove and level th einside of the pool using sand, then a ground sheet, then underlay ,then another ground sheet prior to installing the liner.

Do ensure that the liner is fully stretched and tight to th ewall after putting in a few inches of water ,as at this point you can still lever of the top ring and stretch the liner.
